The Story Behind the Label: Cattle Baron Cabernet
The Cattle Baron started as a gift.
Back in 1972, Steve’s Aunt Pat painted the portrait for her husband, Uncle Jake — founder of the Chino Livestock Commission and a man whose life was deeply tied to cattle, auctions, and the ranching world.
For years, the painting watched over cattle deals at the commission. Later, it followed Uncle Jake to Bliss, Idaho, where he and Steve spent late nights around the pool table, talking, laughing, and remembering a life built around livestock, family, and grit.
One of those nights, Steve made Uncle Jake a promise: someday, the Cattle Baron would appear on the label of Bosma’s first red wine.
That promise became our 2015 Syrah — the first red wine released by Bosma Estate Winery, and the beginning of a label rooted in family, farming, and a little bit of stubborn devotion.
